TIMELINE (Updated 11:00 p.m. 08/28/2025)

1982

  • 1982, Rebecca Beard graduated from high school and married Darrell Beard. They have a daughter named Brittany.

1983

  • 1983: Linda and Carol (Rebecca’s mother and sister) move in with Leon and Shirley Buchanan. Leon runs Buchanan Oldsmobile and Jeep.

1984

  1. About the entries in 1984 and 1985:  they are all real estate transactions except for March 20, 1985 (Taylor/DWI).  I do this in almost all projects because real estate deals can be revealing as to the personality and character of an individual. Skip them if they don’t interest you; you won’t miss anything critical.
  2. I’m not publishing the house numbers of the properties listed below at this  time for privacy reasons of those who live there now. I’ve listed them as 000 Riley Road and 0000 3rd Street (Where Rebecca was murdered.)
  • April 16, 1984: A Warranty Deed from Rick Brown’s father, Jack Brown, as Trustee of the property, to Paul Taylor transfers a portion of Lot 71 and 70 at 000 Riley.
  • April 16, 1984: A Deed of Trust is recorded for Paul Taylor to TDECU for $19,800 on the 000 Riley property.
  • April 17, 1984: A Warranty Deed from Rick Brown’s father, Jack Brown, as Trustee of the property, to Paul Taylor and Rick Brown transfers a portion of Lot 71 and 70 at 000 Riley. (This is the same property he transferred to Taylor alone on April 16, 1984, and TDECU gave Taylor a loan to purchase it. Rick Brown’s name isn’t on the loan, just on the property. This isn’t the normal way things are done.)

1985

  • February 6, 1985: Paul Taylor grants a mechanic’s lien to Robert Berry (contractor) for $25,000 in improvements at 000 Riley Road.
  • February 20, 1985: Paul Taylor grants a $25,000 Deed of Trust to First National Bank LJ for improvements on 000 Riley, and STILL no mention of Rick Brown on the title; Taylor is the only one responsible for the loan.
  • March 20, 1985: Paul Taylor receives his third DWI charge (his second felony DWI), and his probation will be revoked.
  • April 12, 1985: GC sells 0000 3rd St, Clute, TX to Paul Taylor. This was Paul Taylor’s home and the house in which Rebecca was killed.
  • April 12, 1985: Paul Taylor takes out a $15,500 lien from TDECU for the 0000 3rd St property.
  • April 15, 1985: Paul Taylor and Rick Brown sell 000 Riley to GC for a sum that includes Coldwater’s $42,300 loan from TDECU.
  • April 18, 1985: Paul Taylor pays off the $19,800 lien from 1984 on 000 Riley.
  • April 19, 1985: Paul Taylor pays off the $25,000 Deed of Trust to First National Bank LJ on 000 Riley.
